They are not an illness in themselves, but a sign that something is disturbing your pet's digestive system. In most cases, it's a benign, transient condition, but there are situations that require prompt veterinary consultation.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is vomiting? What about diarrhea? <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Vomiting<\/strong>: the active expulsion of stomach contents, often preceded by nausea, salivation and even visible abdominal movements.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Diarrhea<\/strong>: diarrhea occurs when there is an increase in the frequency, quantity or consistency of stools.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It's important to distinguish <strong>vomiting<\/strong> from <strong>regurgitat<\/strong>, which occurs effortlessly and corresponds to a disorder of the oesophagus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What are the possible causes?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are many causes, ranging from benign disorders to more serious conditions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Common and benign causes:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sudden dietary change<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ingestion of unsuitable food (table scraps, grass, etc.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stress or unusual excitement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Intestinal parasites (especially in young animals)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Causes requiring special attention :<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Viral or bacterial infection<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Poisoning (plants, drugs, household products, etc.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ingested foreign body (toy, bone, string, etc.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pancreatitis, liver or kidney failure or other organ failure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Digestive tumors, especially digestive lymphomas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Regurgitation secondary to brachycephalic syndrome<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Anatomical anomalies: hiatal hernia, megaesophagus, pyloric stenosis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When should I consult?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Some situations warrant immediate veterinary consultation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Persistent vomiting or diarrhea for more than 24 hours<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Blood in stools or vomit<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Refusal to eat or drink<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Marked depression, fever, abdominal pain<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rapid weight loss<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In very young, elderly or chronically ill animals<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What can I do at home if I have mild symptoms?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If there are no signs of seriousness, you can take the following first steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Eat small, frequent meals and keep well hydrated. Limit agitation after meals, especially when vomiting. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Deworm<\/strong> your pet <strong>regularly<\/strong> according to your vet's recommendations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Monitor progress<\/strong>: if symptoms persist or worsen, consult your doctor as soon as possible.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Care adapted to each case<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>At the Agoravet clinic, our vets have all the tools they need to make a precise diagnosis: blood tests, abdominal ultrasound, endoscopy, and specific examinations in cases of suspected intoxication or chronic disease.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Certain conditions may require staged intestinal biopsies or biopsies of abdominal organs.
