cats<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.agoravet.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/ulcere_oeil_veterinaire-1-scaled.jpg\" data-type=\"attachment\" data-id=\"4583\">corneal ulcers<\/a><\/strong> are lesions of the cornea, the transparent surface of the eye, which can be <strong>painful and potentially serious<\/strong> if not treated promptly. When a patient is referred to us, it's usually because the <strong>medical treatment <\/strong>already in place has been unable to bring about healing. In the majority of cases, the ulcers we treat are already <strong>advanced or complicated<\/strong>, requiring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.agoravet.fr\/en\/our-services\/ophthalmology\/eye-surgery\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"115\"><strong>surgical treatment<\/strong> <\/a>to avoid irreversible complications, such as <strong>corneal perforation or loss of the eye<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Surgery removes the infected or atonic portion of the cornea<strong>(superficial keratectomy<\/strong>) and, if necessary, restores the eye's integrity with a <strong>corneal graft <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-custom-secondaire-color\">(2 &amp; 3)<\/mark><\/strong> or <strong>conjunctival flap <mark
