Caring for my cat

The approach to cat care is singularly different from that for other animals.

They differ in their sensitivity to stress, and its consequences for health and behavior, as well as in their specific illnesses and species-specific needs.

To meet these specific needs, we have created a space and an approach adapted to welcoming these animals. As a result :

Cats are separated from other species as soon as they arrive at the clinic. A quiet waiting room is dedicated to them.

Cats requiring hospitalization are kept apart from other animals. A cattery with adapted, silent, communicating cages to allow more space is at their disposal.

Cats can be vectors of infectious diseases (coryza, FIP, digestive viruses, etc.). Particular attention is paid to the hygiene of areas frequented by cats.

Cats suspected of having a contagious disease are kept in a separate room away from all other animals.

The veterinary and ASV teams are trained to handle and take into account the stress of this animal through specific training courses. Successful care depends on the animal's cooperation. Reducing stress is a key factor for us.

Here are a few tips to help you prepare for your visit with your cat:

  • To limit the stress of transportation, prepare your crate and belongings the day before.
  • The transport crate should not contain any food or water. Ideally, it should be completely covered with a towel or blanket. This limits draughts, reduces noise and plunges the cat into a reassuring semi-darkness.
  • In the waiting room, do not let your cat wander outside. If your cat has relieved itself in its carrier, or if it has been ill during transport, please report this to us when it is admitted, so that our care team can quickly take the necessary steps to make it comfortable again.
  • If examinations or surgery are necessary, remember to fast your cat the day before the procedure.
  • Prepare all your cat's medical records: medical history, test results, X-rays, ultrasounds.

What are the most common reasons for cats to visit our clinic?

  • Digestive disorders such as diarrhea and vomiting, but also weight loss and difficulty eating.
  • For eye disorders: traumatic wounds, infectious diseases, corneal ulcers, corneal sequestration, etc.
  • following accidents in the home or on the road: fractures, pneumothorax, internal injuries, haemorrhages
  • For urinary or kidney problems: ureteral or urethral calculi, recurrent cystitis, SUB placement
  • for blood disorders: anemia, leukocytosis, blood transfusions

All examinations and treatments for these conditions are available at Agoravet. Please do not hesitate to contact our care teams.
