Screening for hereditary eye diseases

Screening for hereditary eye diseases in carnivores

Dr. Azoulay, a specialist in ophthalmology, has been accredited since 1993 to carry out screening for hereditary eye diseases in carnivores, sometimes also referred to as screening for ocular defects. As such, he is authorized to issue an official AFEP-MHOC certificate.

This examination is performed regularly in our ophthalmology department, by appointment only. It is aimed at breeders wishing to reduce the impact of hereditary eye diseases in their kennels, as well as private individuals wishing to breed their animal or interested in their dog's status. This screening is required by certain breed clubs before any breeding, whether or not the animal's owner is a breeder.

Here are some practical tips from the AFEP-MHOC website to help you prepare for your consultation:

"In order to facilitate the administrative management of your file and welcome you in the best possible conditions, we also advise you to send your full contact details and a copy of the pedigree or, failing that, all the information concerning your dog to the veterinary clinic secretariat in advance. If the required documents are not presented at the time of the examination, it will be impossible to issue the certificate and it will only be possible to issue it on receipt of these documents.
