Eye surgery on two Long-eared Owls🦉

The AgoraVet clinic’s AgoraVision ophthalmology department recently had the honor of caring for two Middle Owls from the Parc Zoologique de Sainte-Croix.

Both birds of prey, belonging to the same sibling, suffered from anterior dislocation of the crystalline lens. This condition is all the more critical given that they are both monophthalmic, with only one functional eye.

To help them, our team performed a minimally invasive phacoemulsification surgical procedure to remove the dislocated lens precisely and gently.

This treatment was carried out under the watchful eye of two zoo veterinarians, in collaboration with our veterinarians Dr Thierry Azoulay and Dr Claire Silvain, as well as our experienced assistants in the ophthalmology department, ensuring constant surveillance adapted to these very special patients.

We’d like to thank the Parc de Sainte-Croix for their trust, and we’ll be keeping a close eye on the progress of these two magnificent birds.
