Cataracts are a disabling condition whose treatment is essentially surgical. There’s no denying that its management should be entrusted to a qualified veterinarian, trained in endocular surgery. However, for this chain of care to function correctly, the practitioner must know what to do when faced with a cataract: he or she must be able to recognize it, foresee when an operation is indicated, be able to prepare the patient for it, and be aware of any surgical complications. In this way, he can best inform his clients and accompany them before and after the operation.
